more - With 70 per cent of its scrap sales going overseas, the US scrap processor and steel producer Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. continued to rely on scrap and steel demand from the developing world in the fiscal quarter ending 30 May. Although US mills purchased scrap early in the quarter, their demand was satisfied prior to quarter's end, contributing to the severe price volatility during the reporting period. more - Prices for ordinary recovered paper grades have yielded in June on the French recovered paper market, amid a slowdown in exports and pressure on domestic paper mills' margins. EUWID sources agreed that collection volumes had been very low in May and were far from returning to the level seen before the economic crisis in June, as well. On the other hand, the recent slump in overseas demand has left a little more recovered paper available in France. Recycled corrugated case material producers and other converters felt that very high recovered paper prices were significantly impinging on their margins even though they had raised their own end product prices. They and other converters had launched the latest initiative to lower recovered paper prices. As a result, domestic buyers often paid up to €20 per tonne less for many ordinary grades even though demand from the paper industry in France is said to remain good.

Conversely, other market participants believed that fer-rous scrap prices had found their support level and were predicting a month of un-changed prices in July.
