The competitive market for environmental technologies in Germany is characterized by high environmental standards and a comprehensive environmental legislation. The global trend towards pushing and harmonising environmental standards, as well as more severe environmental regulations at the international level, has lead to a growing demand on innovative environmental know-how and technologies all over the world. Although many small and medium sized companies (SMEs) from Rhineland-Palatinate already operate very successfully on regional and international markets, the challenge of new global markets gets more and more in the focus of many companies’ efforts.

The existence of solution-oriented networks of companies (branch-cluster) for strategic co-operations on new markets could help increasing the chances of success for many SMEs from the environmental technology sector. The Competence Network Environmental Technology Rhineland-Palatinate offers such a co-operation platform for SMEs of the environmental technology sector in Rhineland-Palatinate..

Activities

The service catalogue of the Competence Network Environmental Technology Rhineland-Palatinate adapts to the needs of information and cooperation of SMEs from the environmental technology branch at Rhineland-Palatinate, and encompasses the following areas:

• ­Strengthening of the intra-sector dialogue:
  Besides annual proceedings, the Rhineland-Palatinate sectoral meeting “Day of the Environmental Technology Rhineland-Palatinate” (within the scope of the Circular Economy Week Rhineland-Palatinate), the thematic Workshops as well as expositions by innovative enterprises and organisations; perform an important contribution to the strengthening of intra-sector dialog.
• ­Marketing and representation abroad of the sector:
  The objective of Rhineland-Palatine firms is to advertise their products and know-how beyond the state borders. This Internet platform (www.umwelttechnik-rlp.de), featuring an integrated enterprise database, constitutes an essential tool to focus marketing activities.
• ­Information services for general training and consulting, specific for sectors and states:
  Problem-oriented and specifically tailored training and consulting programs, as well as information services, should help enterprises to lower their transaction costs of procurement or information, and to gain an overview on the state-of-the-art of international environmental technology markets.
• Construction of enterprise networks in the different areas of the environmental technology:
  The service offers information on partners, contacts and technology searches aimed to assist to the development of project, state and bidders communities.
• Practicality-oriented research and development:
  Its location and close cooperation of the initiative with the Institute of Applied Material Flow Management, of the University of Applied Sciences Trier, Environmental Campus Birkenfeld; offer excellent basic conditions for the development of research co-operations between SMEs and science. Consulting and support in the areas of Fundraising, Financing, Project Development and Project Management further extend the range of offers.
