Profile

The waste treatment and recycling technology within the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) represents the major manufacturers of the waste treatment and recycling industry. The association provides comprehensive support to its members in their daily work. Changing regulations and new technologies necessitate a constant realignment to the demands of the market. The resulting information requirement is wide-ranging, partly due to the heterogeneous nature of the industry.

The association offers:
  • A platform on which to exchange views and information, e.g. through member meetings and specialist working groups
  • Industry-specific information, such as on interesting markets, relevant trade fairs, research projects, technology, regulations and licensing requirements abroad
  • Statistics
  • Co-operation within the European Committee EUCETSA
  • Joint contributions to foreign trade fairs and organisation of specialist symposia at home and abroad
  • Sales support i.e. by the maintenance of an online manufacturer directory or answering individual queries
  • Image promotion through industry specific press and publicity work in German and foreign publications etc.

The predominantly medium sized German manufacturers of waste treatment and recycling technology machinery design, plan and build equipment, machines and components used in order to dispose and pre-process waste materials of public and industrial consumption environmentally-friendly.

The range of plants and machinery offered comprises every level of treatment, utilisation and disposal of waste.

Primary sectors are:
  • Recycling technology
  • Processing technology
  • Biological processes
  • Mechanical processes
  • Thermal processes
  • Process combinations

World-wide demand for waste treatment and recycling technology is ample. However, foreign countries lack legal fundamentals and their consistent realisation yet. In consequence necessary incentives for investments are missing. Still, German waste treatment machinery and systems manufacturers export their products throughout the entire world, an economic activity reflected in the relatively high export quota of 70%. Not least because of the ecological orientation of its legislation and a keen environmental awareness, Germany has succeeded in distinguishing itself on the international market in the area of environmental technology. The high percentages of patented inventions in this field demonstrate that Germany's leading world trading position is largely based on its technological strengths.
