General Profile
The most important functions of the Federal Environment Agency are: - Scientific support for the Federal Government (Federal ministries of environment, health, research, transport, building and urban affairs, among others)
- Enforcement of environmental legislation (e.g. on emissions trading, authorisation of chemicals, medicines and plant protection products)
- Informing the public on environmental issues.
Aims and tasks of the Federal Environment Agency’s Platform for Technology Transfer (Waste Management): - To support sustainable waste management abroad:
This takes place on the basis of both, best available techniques and on the basis of techniques adapted to the specific circumstances of the countries concerned (developed countries, developing countries, newly industrialised countries). - To stimulate the demand for German waste management services and goods:
The Platform sees itself as a catalyst which helps remove obstacles on both the demand and the supply side (lack of information, contacts…). However, its responsibility can never extend to successfully completing a transaction!
