The Institute for Environmental Studies and Applied Research was founded in 2003 as an institution of the University of Applied Sciences of Bingen. I.E.S.A.R carries out applied research projects and advisory services mainly in the areas of environmental law and economics, environmental management and planning and cooperation for development.

  • Regional Solid Waste Management Project

    Commissioned by: GTZ/Weltbank

    The objective of this project is to support 8 North African/Arabic countries of the mediterranean basin for the disposal of domestic waste. In addition to an extensive “guideline”, a data bank is established and seminars for the regional leaders are realized.

  • Environmental Management Morocco

    Commisioned by: GTZ
    Within the scope of the programme “Programme de Gestion et de Protection de l’Environement/PGPE”, the objective of this programme is to support the Ministry of Environment of Morocco in developing environmental law in the field of waste, air pollution, environmental impact assessment, soil protection and renewable energies.

Developing instruments to improve the market access of German enterprises in terms of environmental and climate protection projects in developing and newly industrializing countries

General description of the project:

The aim of the project is, together with the project partners, to develop specific tools for improving the competitiveness of German enterprises in environmental markets of developing and newly industrializing countries. These tools will be tested in a pilot phase. The purpose is to specifically facilitate the economic success of SMEs in environmental technology and climate protection markets in such countries.

Project partners: Fachhochschule Darmstadt, Sonderforschungsgruppe Institutionenanalyse (sofia), several private companies

Content / scope of the project:

Concrete instruments are developed and tested in a pilot phase in two countries of destination (Morocco and VAE):

  1. The environmental investment radar for developing and newly industrializing countries (EIR). It is a dynamic information system providing country- and sector-specific information on the environmental, legal and economic framework. (At present in the development phase. Public domain at autumn 2009).
  2. Helps/guidelines to the intercultural competence to simplify the selection of special trainings for owners and coworkers possible of a SME esier, in order to move then „culturally competently “and sovereign in the foreign trade business (see    www.clima-pro.de/302.0.html ). This unit will contain information on the cultural characteristics of cooperation.

As a result of the project offers of information become available, which can be used and developed further by the participants also for other goal regions independently. The generated information can be communicated by already existing databases of different institutions or by an independent information portal.
