As of: 23.08.2010About RETech

Please note: Due to the fact that German RETech Partnership e.V. has taken over responsibility for the RETech website, this section is currently being updated.

The worldwide demand for recycling and disposal technologies is growing strongly as raw materials are becoming scarcer and emerging economies are showing an increasing environmental awareness. Low-waste production and environmentally sound recycling processes limit the increase in waste volumes, foster the efficient use of raw materials and minimise the disposal costs arising from illegal dumping. Recycling and waste disposal technologies can limit environmental degradation and negative social impacts. The German recycling and waste management industry is extremely well set up to meet this global demand, thereby contributing to shape a greener future.

RETech 's objectives and target groups

In order to promote the transfer of know-how, environmental standards and the use of highly efficient technologies, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) started the RETech Initiative. Together with a network of stakeholders from industry, public authorities and universities, it aims to contribute to creating and improving worldwide waste management standards. Additionally, RETech adds to improving waste management systems internationally, especially in the emerging economies and developing countries. In Germany, it contributes to the optimization of support and networking of German institutions involved in technology export and know-how transfer.

RETech's target groups are:

  • Public and private institutions with an interest in German waste management concepts, services and technologies
  • Companies and institutions of the German waste management industry interested in expanding their activities abroad
