A next step is taken towards a strong cooperation

We’re happy to announce that we as German RETech Partnership signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an output of the EWWI at the end of November 22 in Cairo. The MoU is also signed by Prof. Dr Ahmed Abdel Zaher (Chairman of the Board General Union of Cooperatives) and Mohammad Mahmoud Mabrouk (Al Gharbia Businessmen Association).

The planned activities of the cooperation will be in the field of environmental services, including waste management and treatment in the Arab Republic of Egypt in general and Egyptian villages in particular, the objectives of which will be the following:

  • Developing and improving the environmental aspects by treating and recycling waste
  • Providing job opportunities in the environmental and local development field
  • Developing local manufacturing by transferring German technology and technical expertise to local partners
  • Cooperation in national projects and strategies, e.g. Haya Karima, national waste management plan, etc., on circular economy and recycling for different waste streams

The General Union of Cooperatives includes in its membership the following cooperative federations: The Agricultural Cooperative Union, General Productive Cooperative Union, Consumer Cooperative Union, General Housing Cooperative Union and General Fisheries Cooperative Union. They aim to participate in sustainable economic, social and environmental development plans and national projects to provide services for low-income people and achieve social justice through various ministries under the presidency of the Egyptian Council of Ministers.

Al Gharbia Businessmen Association in Egypt is a civil association in the centre of the Delta that includes many Business People in the Gharbia Governorate as members. It has many industrial, commercial, and service activities. The association is interested in participating in national projects and employing young people. It desires to support and initiate development in the villages of the Delta.

RETech, in cooperation with the partners of the MENA working group, will inform the Egyptian partner about international activities such as conferences, workshops, further education, etc. and, depending on the possibilities, involve them in the implementation.  In addition, the initiation and implementation of sustainable projects will be supported.
