Minister Müller launches International Waste Alliance

On 9 May 2019, German Development Minister, Gerd Müller, launched the international PREVENT Waste Alliance with more than 30 organisations from industry and science as well as with Indonesia and Ghana. The German RETech Partnership also supports the alliance as a member. The aim is to create new projects for waste avoidance, recycling and proper disposal in developing and emerging countries by networking the players. In this way, the urgently needed knowledge and technology transfer for modern waste management is created. The alliance works in 4 working groups on the following topics:

1: Conserving resources - avoiding plastic waste in production and consumption, promoting the use of recycled plastics

2: Closing cycles for packaging - setting up return and recycling systems for packaging waste

3: Set up take-back and recycling systems for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in emerging economies and developing countries

4: Framework conditions for waste and recycling management at municipal level

One aim is to gather information on these topics and initiate projects. Some members of RETech also participated in the event for the launch of the PREVENT Waste Alliance and actively contributed to the working groups.
